Volunteer Opportunities

CROYA (Committee Representing Our Young Adults)
CROYA is a community based agency dedicated to the well being of students in grades 7th through 12th. CROYA has long embraced opportunities where young people gainimportant life skills through self reflection and hands on learning. Through service to others, CROYA also teaches young residents the importance of giving back. CROYA supports local organizations and residents on a variety of projects each month. Gorton Community Center Marketing and Special Project Intern

Gorton Community Center is seeking a Marketing and Special Project Intern to assist in marketing, special projects and fundraising. The position is unpaid, not for credit and available for the Summer 2013. The intern will work closely with Brenda Dick, Executive Director and Tricia Sweet, Marketing and Program Director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Write and design newsletters, press releases, and fact sheets.
  • Write copy for print and online communications.
  • Monitor social forums including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter and develop and implement new strategies for effectively engaging interested parties via electronic communications and social networks.
  • Manage website content changes and maximize its connections.
  • Manage Salsa, Gorton’s donor database
  • Develop new strategies for direct mail communications.
  • Keep electronic media content current and timely. 
  • Ensure all links to outside sources are active.
  • Seek new opportunities to list information and increase Gorton’s web presence.
  • Build Gorton’s presence on Facebook and LinkedIn through regular postings and interactions with users.

Gorton Drop-In Center Volunteer

The Drop-In Center at Gorton is looking for volunteers who enjoy working with a variety of children ages 6 weeks through 6 years.  All volunteers must complete DCFS required paperwork.  Drop-In Center hours are 8:30-4:00 Monday through Friday, September through May.

Lake Forest City Government
The City of Lake Forest encourages dedicated and civic-minded residents to participate in their local government. Over 100 resident volunteers serve on the City's 19 boards and commissions. They provide leadership and establish policy while working hard to ensure an open and responsive government. Any resident interested in serving on a board or commission can contact the Office of the City Manager (847-810-3672) and request a Volunteer Profile Sheet. All appointments are made by the Mayor with advice and consent of the City Council, along with the Lake Forest Caucus system.
 
Senior Center at Dickinson Hall

The Senior Center serves as the hub of activity for older adults and services and offers a variety of programs, classes, special interest groups, parties and trips designed to provide enrichment and social experiences. Social services, including transportation, are designed to help older adults maintain their independence and remain in their own homes.

Volunteer Driver Escorts are needed to provide rides for seniors. Seniors may schedule a ride in the Senior Car for travel between the hours of 8:45 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Rides are generally confined to Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and Knollwood, but exceptions are made on an individual basis. 100 E. Old Mill Road. Call 234.2209 to volunteer.
